What to expect
Meeting for Worship begins at 10:30 AM on Sundays. The first and third Sundays of each month are in person, and the rest are via Zoom. Send an e-mail to woosterclerk@yahoo.com if you would like to be sent links for the Zoom video calls. We meet for an hour in silence in a circle facing one another. Immediately after the meeting for worship, we all take a turn to socialize and share by briefly expressing any profound weekly events in our lives.
What should I wear?
Anything you like! T-shirts are as welcome as ties.
Where’s the minister?
Wooster Friends is an unprogrammed meeting, meaning that we worship based on the group dynamic communion with God that is based in silence. The visitor to our meeting will notice the simplicity of the chairs facing one another and the absence of a minister and of formal procedures or ritual objects. All in attendance share in a silent communion with God. Out of this prayerful silence, any person may be moved to speak. According to general practice other members who feel they need to speak following a message will wait for a while, permitting the previous speaker’s words to season. Often during this seasoning, the second message will change, or even be seen as unnecessary.
What happens after Meeting for Worship?
On the first and third Sundays of each month we plan discussion programs. These may be anything from book discussions to guest speakers.
On second Sundays, we convene Meeting for Business.
On fourth Sundays, pot luck lunches follow the meeting for worship. Don’t worry about bringing anything. We always bring more than we need, including table settings for visitors. There are always vegetarian options.
